This is the 1st of the In Death series. For those who don't know, J.D. Robb is Nora Robert's alter ego. I'm not a big fan of Nora Roberts, although I do read her work occasionally. I will say that she writes in a very different style as J.D. Robb. I really enjoyed this book. It is not for the squeamish of faint of heart....the crime in the book is very brutal and graphic and extremely sexual in nature. I like the fact that while it is set in the future, the settings and devices used are actually somewhat plausible. It's a fascinating premise with a solid crime/mystery. I definitely plan on reading more of this series.

This is the very first "In Death" book in the series and I enjoyed seeing how Roarke and Dallas dealt together the first time they met. It's no wonder this falls under the heading of romantic suspense! The other books, while they've got some definite sex scenes and romance to them, seem to deal more with the mystery than with the relationships; this book focused pretty heavily on the relationship between them.

Nora Roberts writes a truckload of books, but I don't care for them. When she puts on her JD Robb hat, I think she sticks to plot development and her characters.
That's why I proudly own every one of JD Robb's books about a butt kicking, smart, survivor, a murder detective named Lieutenant Dallas. The support characters are also developed in later books.
Recently I went back and started with this one, the first book about Dallas, then spent a couple of weeks reading all of the rest of them in order.
I read a lot, and require that the author not stray on tangents, and keep the story interesting and not too predictable - that's what JD Robb does and I recommend her books for those readers who like some detective and total fantasy about a perfect man.

After 20+ books over 10+ years, I decided it was high time to go back to where it all began -- NAKED IN DEATH.

Here, author J.D. Robb (aka best-selling author Nora Roberts) introduces us to NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas, a force in her own right, and one of the trickiest cases yet. The granddaughter of a Senator has been brutally murdered, and the perpetrator promises that five more bodies are to follow. As Eve races against the clock to save more women from dying, she also must contend with her own feelings for Roarke, a self-made billionaire who early on is a suspect in the murders.

If you haven't read any of the "...IN DEATH" books, I highly recommend them to anyone who enjoys romantic suspense. The mystery and the romance are evenly balanced, Eve and Roarke are definitely intriguing characters, and the story just never gets old.

Going back to this first story in the series after having been a fan so long, I was grateful to be reminded of the meaning behind the gray button, how Galahad came into the picture, and how Somerset's attitude has been the same from the beginning.

NAKED IN DEATH is a winner, and you'll be happy to know that when you finish reading it, there are 24 more stories already published in the series. Happy Reading!!

Part romance, part police procedural, the In Death series is set in a non-idealized near future New York City. Naked in Death is first in the series and sets up the series nicely.

The first in a series of futuristi romane thrillers by Nora Roberts writing as JD Robb. This book contains the well thought out story, imaginative conceptualization of a not so distant future and the same romantic, beautiful and yet flawed characters one would see in other books by Roberts. This marks the introduction of Eve Dallas, our hero. She is smart, cares deeply about the welfare of others and is haunted by a damaged childhood. She meets Roarke - a future "Mr. Big" type who falls for her despite the fact that she is investigating him for murder. As the line goes "it's the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

It's always exciting to find a book that you can fall in love with the characters. I started reading this "in Death" series at book 16, not realizing it was a series. Well, I finally decided to start from the beginning. J.D. Robb does not disappoint. I enjoy Lt. Eve Dallas and Roarke just as much as I did in the newer books...plus i found out some interesting details that I did not know before, like how she acquires Galahad her cat, and how he came upon his name. Just little things that bring you closer to the characters and brings more enjoyment while reading the book.

As a long time Nora Roberts fan, I was eager to start on this series written under the pseudonym J.D Robb. Fortunately I was not disappointed.

Eve Dallas in a Lieutenant of the New York Police Department in the year 2058. She is currently investigating the brutal murder of a prostitute. On her long list of suspects is Roarke, a multi-billionaire charmer. As Eve finds herself emotionally involved with Roarke, even to the point of trusting him, the pressure is on for her to find the real killer.

The suspense and mystery are unquestionably entertaining. The romance is hot and sweet. The balance between the two is flawless, a tribute to Robb's impeccable writing style. The tone of the whole book makes it flow easily and quickly.

To me the series looks very promising. I would recommend this book to fans of mystery, suspense, and romance.

Naked in Death is a fabulous read. It's gritty, full of intrigue, and I was unable to guess the ending...always nice when reading a mystery. I suggest you go get it and read it asap. Eve Dallas is a force to be re-conned with. And Roarke...Roarke is sexy. Haha. He's rather two dimensional until a couple books into the series (this one is the first), but he still adds nice flair. ♥

An excellent read! The Eve Dallas story and her backstory is fascinating. This book is about how she met the man who would become her husbaand - Roarke - as a murder suspect, no less! Hell of a way to start a romance!

The plot, as usual with any JD Robb book, was excellent, the timing and pace kept you going and even when you had to leave the book (for such mundane things like work and sleep), you couldn't wait to get back to it.

If ytou are interested in police drama and solving the case but without the extreme forensics brouhaha of a CSI:Wherever type novel, the JD Robb something "in Death is for you!

By the Way... SUMMERSET is a card!

A spectacular beginning to a blockbuster series. It's 2058 and, though prostitution is now legal and regulated, it can still be a dangerous profession. Eve Dallas, a lieutenant in the modern version of the NYPD, gets the job of finding out who killed a very beautiful, very expensive prostitute in her own luxurious apartment. The woman is a member of a very wealthy influential family. The prime suspect seems to be the richest man in the world. He also happens to be handsome, sexy, determined and very interested in the lieutenant, a woman who has a past with a lot of holes in it that has left her with, among other things, nightmares and a reluctance to form relationships. The pacing is good, the characters are pretty well rounded, the dialogue is engaging and the book is hard to put down. If you're into murder mysteries give it a try. You'll probably like it. I certainly did. And do. I tend to read my way from beginning to end of the series about once a year.

I love powerful Lt. Eve Dallas and how the complex New York City crimes are solved. If you don't wanna bite her husband, don't read these books! Nora Robert's best writing is as JD Robb in this "In Death" series of some 30+ stories to date. I collect all of the JD Robb books, but skip the Roberts, whose stories are not as tight as those about Lt. Eve Dallas - ass kicker! If the future of New York City is like this, I fear these futuristic killers who are sneaky and complex.

This is the first book in the J.D. Robb "in Death" series and as is to be expected from this author the plot, writing, and development of characters is superb. In this first book I recognized many of the characters I've come to know and love. Roarke and Eve met during a murder investigation in which Rourke is one of the main suspects. They fell in love against Eve's better judgment. A good read, or re-read.

If you don't care for Nora Roberts BUT love Mystery/Dark Thrillers with a side of romance and a dash of comedy - then I think you'll love J.D. Robb's ... In Death series written by Nora Roberts alter ego.

I won't go into the details of the books but will tell you this: Superb character development, continuity of the story line (which means you really need to read the books in order although they can stand alone) is top notch, the relationships that are webbed and weaved together throughout each page are phenomenal and let's the reader 'really' get to know the characters.

The number one suspect of the crime is Irish billionaire Roarke, who Eve is drawn to even though she keeps telling herself not to get involved with him. The murderer has left a note that there will be five more murders. Time is running out.

when i first started to read this book, i didn't think i was going to be into it because it takes place in the year 2058 and everything is run by technology. i'm glad i continued to read it, it turned out as good as every one says it is. eve is called to a scene of a murder. she discovers a naked and very dead legal prostitute. by the time the third murder victim is found, eve found herself falling for the lead suspect, roarke. eve tried everything she could to keep away from him, but her feelings were to strong.
this is a wonderful novel about love, murder, and trust. it is recommended for anyone who likes nora roberts.

A great romantic suspense story, with the added appeal of being set in the future. Robb (aka Nora Roberts) has created a fascinating world of new politics, moral issues, technology, weaponry, transportation, etc. I can't wait to read the next one in the series, and can see why folks are so addicted to this series.

The first in a wonderful series by J.D. Robb, the pseudonym for New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts. This is our first look at Lt. Eve Dallas. These characters will grab you and you'll want to read further into the series. Definately a keeper. I have an extra copy of my own.

From the back of the blue lady cover.

In New York theres a lieutenant name Eve Dallas thats unique in her line of work with years of experience and shes paired up with a former partner name Feeney. Her first call she gets is a domestic call that puts her in a line of fire that leads to kill the husband that sliced up his baby. Before she could make it to testing that all cops have to go through after they kill a person or two she was called in on a killing of a prostitute. It wasnt just any prostitute; Sharon is the Senator Granddaughter so this takes front roll over everything else. So whatever issue Eve had from the shooting, the testing and feelings goes on the back burner until the killer is found.

Eve gets the call from her Captain to report to the gruesome scene and theres Sharon shoot several times. The killer leaves a note behind telling Eve this is one of six that will take place. A lead comes in letting Eve know that Sharon had a hot date the day before her death. This billionaire name Roarke was her hot date, which gives Eve the incentive to go after this man. It was an attraction for Roarke and not so much for Eve but as the questions come it was something about Eve, Roarke find so sexy. As the investigation moves forward things in Sharon life and the other two women that come up dead is someway connected.

Someone out there knows Eve every step and tries to spook her off the case by leaving disc of the murder on her doorstep. But Eve thinks she has it figured until the investigation takes a turn for the worst. The discover of who, what, when and how it happen shocks her off her feet and lands her a billionaire.

I really like this series! I read one out of order (Portrait in Death) and decided I had better read them in order! I enjoyed this first book and now must find the next one! Thanks for sharing!!!

The first in Robb's series featuring New York Police Detective Eve Dallas involves the detective in the high-profile murder of the granddaughter of a senator. It also begins her relationship with Roarke, the dashing businessman with a shadowy past who finds Dallas enormously intriguing.

I liked the 'near future' aspect of the story, in that it's not so far in the future that you would consider it "science fiction", and the references to futuristic ideas are definitely plausible. Story moves along at a good pace and you don't guess the outcome till the very end.

Naked in death starts out a really great series! Nora Roberts writes these under the name of JD ROBB. I did just start this series as I read everything I can get my hands on from Nora. If you are a new reader, you do need to start with this book and work your way through. I didn't start here first and she really builds the characters through each story that if you don't start from the beginning you miss a lot. I went back and am now starting from the beginning. This series is not Nora's romance format. Of course there is romance in there! This series is a mystery style. It takes place in NYC in the year 2058. When people do travel " off planet" and prostitution is legal. Your car drives you and you have " auto chefs " in house, car , even your office. The way ROBB writes about the future this is truly believable. Lt. Eve Dallas is a tough woman. She is strong, independent, and she truly fights and believes in her job as homicide detective. In this book she finds her main suspect a billionaire name Roarke. He is very charming, Irish, has lived a little on the edge, rich, and good-looking! Eve has now found her match. Roarke didn't have the ideal childhood either and they make the most wonderful couple. This is an excellent series, and keeps you entertained and you don't want to put the book down. Robb does a great job in making the who done it a total surprise! I highly recommend this entire series you will truly be delighted It is awesome!!!
