Take a drug addicted, gay male, hooker from Southern Cali and a Midwestern alcoholic drag queen and pair them up for seven turbulent months living together in Midtown Manhattan and you get a mess; But an intriguing read nonetheless. Gave it 5*'s as it held my undivided attention until the end.

The cute cover drew me in and the sharp writing and witty dialogue kept me reading through this often-shocking look at the lifestyle of a drag queen. A peek into a world you might not know exists, this tale isn't for everyone.

It's hard to write a review of book that already has so many great reviews. For me the book was not only an enjoyable and exciting pastime but also an opportunity to read about a world completely foreign to me. The author's description of his life as a drag queen is not only captivating but also outrageous. It made me drop my mouth open in parts, shake my head but also laugh outloud. I'm so glad I had a chance to read this memoir and discover the world of drag queens.

One of the most FUN books I have ever read. I am not sure how Kilmer-Purcell weaves together a story that is all at once horrifying, hysterical, disgusting, and endearing, but he pulls it off. It is a great peak into a world many people never knew truly existed, and will keep you captivated in the ONE sitting you will read it in. The story at times perhaps seems sensationalized, but it is effective and affecting. Can't wait to read it again!

Wowzers. A raw, gritty story about Josh KP's first year in NYC. If you've ever seen him on the Green Channel's The Fabulous Beekman Boys, you will love this insider's look to Josh's early life. It read a little bit like A Million Little Pieces and a little bit like Chuck Palahniuk's Choke, fascinating and shocking at the same time. And really sad in the way it describes how people hurt themselves when they don't feel accepted in society. Definitely an interesting memoir.

a little peek into a world that is so far removed from my lifestlye -- male prostitution, gay lifestyles, drag queens, crack addiction.. wow! there are a lot of dark moments in this story, however the author has such a humorous style of writing, veyr sarcastic and very very funny. His honest portrayal of this part of his life is entertaining and a very fast read- once you pick the book up, you dont want to put it down.

I really liked this adventure with its ups and downs. A big from James Frey, "Sex, drugs, money, men dressed as women, women trying to care for htem, real job and pretend jobs, makeupa nd glitter and high heels and fake tits and goldfish, true love, doomed love..."

I really enjoyed this book. It is a very easy read. I sat down and read it in two sittings. Very interesting, hillarious at points, and very sad in others. If you are like myself and enjoy memoirs that take you a step outside of your normal life, this is a good one. The language and content is a little racy at times though so be prepared.

The only way I can describe this is a "hot mess." A quick read - like a train wreck you keep going back for more. What is most interesting is to read how wild Josh was and how different he is now with his long-time partner on The Fabulous Beekman Boys. If you haven't see the show, it's about josh (the drag queen) and his partner own a goat farm in upstate new york and are trying to make a business out of goat soap and goat cheese.

Talk about an engrossing book! I was captivated at once by the author's style. Drawn into the story immediately, as I often am by really good memoirs, I read this book in one day while camping.
I am glad the cover art drew my attention and led me to order this book. Unique subject matter- for sure!- and the author has a gift for writing. I did not want to put this book down. I love stories of how other people live and about their experiences and this book fit the bill and then some with much detail!

Great book. A riot to read but not for the faint at heart. This is a paperback book but is a pre-release. It is just like the regular paperback except it has "Coming February 2006" on the cover, etc...great condition.
