Southern Sisters mystery #3. Nothing like a huge family wedding to bring folks togetherâor drive wedges between them! One of the guests at Sister's daughter's weddingâa houseguest of Sister, evenâapparently commits suicide not a half hour after having lunch with Mary Alice and Patricia Anne, where she seemed perfectly happy and chatted animatedly. Suspicious? Well, some people think so. This installment centered around genealogical research and while it was a nice visit with the enjoyable Sisters again, I found many parts of it to be just too contrived and stretching the boundaries of coincidence, or whatever. I read this one immediately following the previous book in the series, and you really do notice patterns and predictable trends when you read series back to back like this.

I love this series, espcially since it features women over the age of 50 and is set in an uncommon location (Birmingham, AL). With usual humor that is just right, Anne George tells a good story with an interesting twist at the end.

I love all of these books, the characters are so funny and heartwarming. I am so sad the author passed away, she truly had a talent for writing.

In this mystery, Mary Alice's daughter gets married. One of the wedding guests is Meg March Bryan, a genealogist, and a guest from the groom's side of the family. Patricia Anne and Mary Alice become friends with Meg and go to lunch with her. The lunch goes well, until their guest hurries away without her two briefcases. Soon after that the sisters learn that Meg killed herself by jumping off the building across the street. The sister detectives get involved with her death which they don't believe was a suicide.

What I love about this book is the sisters. Patricia Anne, a former English teacher and married to Fred for over forty years, is a tiny and proper lady. Her sister,Mary Alice is her opposite in every way. She's a big, beautiful women at 250 lbs. She describes herself as being 5 foot 12 inches tall and she's looking for a fourth husband. Rich men just lover her. The characters are loveable. The stories are hilarious.

I have found each of Ms. George's books laugh out loud funny.

From back of book:

Mary Alice has spared nothing for her only daughter's wedding -- from seventy-five yards of bridal train to gourmet food for over three hundred guests and enough glittering elegance to make Mary Alice think about finding herself a fourth rich husband to pay for it all.
Practical Patricia Anne has put away her aunt-of-the-bride blue chiffon and settled back into domesticity when fun-loving Mary Alice calls to say they have a post-wedding date with a genealogist from the groom's side of the family. Lunch is a fascinating lesson on the hazards of finding dirty linens in ancestral boudoirs that ends abruptly when their guest scurries off with the local judge, leaving the sisters with their mouths open -- and finishing their luncheon companion's cheesecake -- when the police arrive.

Their mysterious guest has taken a plunge from the ninth floor of the courthouse building -- an apparent suicide. But given the scandals a nosy genealogist might have uncovered, the sisters are betting that some proud Southern family is making sure their shameful secrets stay buried. . .along with anyone who tries to dig them up.

Mary Alice has spared nothing for her daughter's wedding. Suddenly they find themselves in the midst of a mystery when a relative of the groom, who is a geneologist, plunges to her death from the 9th floor of the courthouse. Was it suicide or was it a murder...the sisters go in search of the answer.

This is a really good series, funny with a good mystery. Not alot of sex or gore. Features two sisters and their adventures. I would liked to have kept the series myself; but not enough space.

More cozy than my usual reading taste but I just love the dialogue and play between characters, especially Sister and Mouse. Add in Fred, Bo Peep, Bonnie Blue, and Woofer and you have a delightful read.

This is the 3rd book in Anne Georges SOUTHERN SISTERS series. I always thought sisters were rather boring; Anne George brings sisterhood to a whole new level of wackiness. Mary Alice and Patricia Ann are priceless.

On the negative side, this was rather predictable. I also found the transfer of most of the information via telephone to be tiresome.

Originally, I picked this story up because it was about genealogy something Ive been working on for years. Drat, I didnt learn how to work my way through any brick walls (genealogy term for an impediment to finding the facts you need -- a brick wall. When a researcher gets to a dead-end, he says hes reached a brick wall. He cannot find what he needs to continue his research).

I was intrigued when Meg Bryan, a genealogist at the wedding of Mary Alices daughter, Debbie, referred to her profession as dog-eat-dog. My experience with genealogy and genealogists is different -- the people who pursue genealogy are great about sharing. I just had to find out why Mrs. Bryan felt the way she did about her profession.

Other than the antics of the two sisters, this story was unremarkable. All of the regular characters (secondary) are well drawn; its a joy to see them in action.
