Although the novels in this series tend to drag a bit, it's almost impossible---at least I find it so---to ID the criminal before the author tells you at the end. Thia may or may not be a good feature, as the author should give the reader some clue as to who the criminal is.

This is also the second book in the series to include runaway slaves as major participants in the plot, which I find interesting if not enjoyable.

And as to Will Rees solving the crime. Well.....
