This was a good mystery with lots of twists. I liked how Miss Marple and the Detective Inspector Craddock gradually put together the truth surrounding the murder announcement.

A murder is advertised in the personals column of the local blather giving the time and place. But, who is to be the victim; who the culprit? These are the questions for the police and for who else but Miss Marple. Although the inimitable Miss Marple provides the explanation, we are left to understand that the police inspector has solved this one. At any rate it is a question of identities. Is anyone whom they purport to be? Well, it is entertaining, but pay attention.

Gotta love Ms. Christie. An oldie but definately a goodie!
A fantastic story of an 'attempted' murder which baffles all except for Miss Jane Marple.
Top notch Christie.

A murder is advertised in the personals column of the local blather giving the time and place. But, who is to be the victim; who the culprit? These are the questions for the police and for who else but Miss Marple. This two act play was adapted by Leslie Darbon from Dame Agatha's novel. Although the inimitable Miss Marple provides the explanation, we are left to understand that the police inspector has solved this one. I wonder what the book will tell me if I can find it? At any rate it is a play on identities. Is anyone whom they purport to be? Well, it is an entertaining play, but pay attention.

Classic Miss Marple. Recommended!
The copy I have posted has a different cover. I have the 1951 printing by Pocket Books (same ISBN-10).
I've been steadily working my way through the Miss Marple mysteries, and this one is my least favorite so far. I don't understand all of the 5-star ratings some of these get- perhaps it's just nostalgia. This one read more like a bad soap opera than a mystery. I do still enjoy Miss Marple's pluck and pension for gossip though. I'll see what the next one has to offer.
