The main character, Helen, has multiple personalities. She is an artist and a murder takes place where her art is displayed. Det. Cheever investigates and in the course of his investigation begins to care about Helen and becomes protective of her - especially her child personality. He also becomes romantically interested in her psychiatrist. They work together to unravel the mystery and in the end there are two culprits behind the problems - Helen's psychic split, and the murder. Both are found. Very Good story. Recommending to my book club.
