As a retired psychiatric RN, I was very interested in reading this book. Dr. Mary Trump definitely sums up the issues with Donald Trump as I thought would be accurate. He has had a very dysfunctional upbringing resulting in several personality disorders. Personality disorders are not inherited - they are developed. This book describes how that has happened.
I do not see her book as a money grab or a case for revenge. She is describing what happened in her family to several members of the family thanks to the "patriarch". This is a heart breaking story of how one man can affect all the members of his family!
I commend her for her bravery and the fight she had to endure to get this book published. It is definitely well worth the time to read it. I give it 5 stars simply for the honesty and accuracy in her accounting.

It's a quick, engaging read about the origins of the Trump family. Very timely

The Republican National Convention ended last night, thank God! I don't think our country can survive another four years of Trump in the White House. Based on what I've heard from the convention, Trump is doing a fantastic job! The ills and unrest in the country are all because of the Democrats in power in certain large cities. Or this quote from Twitter: "Don't Let Democrats keep ruining America which is stronger than it has ever been but also must be saved by Donald Trump who is the best president ever and has been hindered at every turn. Any bad thing now is from the Biden future and unless you vote Trump, the chaos will continue!"
As far as Mary Trump's book, it was really an enlightening background on the making of a megalomaniac, narcissistic, sociopath who has no empathy for anyone. The book focuses on the Trump family, especially Trump's father, Fred who Mary also considers to have been a sociopath with little regard for anyone outside of his family and who created the fortune that enabled Donald to spend millions on his untenable projects that ended in bankruptcy such as his Atlantic City casinos. She also describes the unfair treatment of her father, Fred Jr. or Freddy, who died at an early age due to alcoholism and depression and who was pretty much erased from the family. Mary and her brother Fritz were disinherited and received next to nothing when their grandfather died. They were told that his estate was worth about $30 million when in fact it was worth nearer to a billion. The money was taken by the remaining siblings and used to their advantage while hiding it with various tax schemes.
I can see why Mary is upset at the Trump family and based on this book, how Donald got to where he is today. But please, VOTE! Our country depends on it.

A story of a dysfunctional and warped family, Trump, as told by a cousin, Mary Trump. How a person with no redeeming factors, not skill or knowledge can be elected President will be discussed in history for years to come.

I'm not a fan of our former president, but this book went a long way toward explaining the forces (mostly dad) that influenced him.His niece, Mary Trump, has a PhD in psychology, so is well qualified to analyze the dynamics at work within the Trump family.

Did I enjoy TOO MUCH AND NEVER ENOUGH? How could any reasonably sane person enjoy anything remotely related to Donald Trump? No, I did not enjoy the book at all. I did, however, find the book informative and well written. Unlike Donald Trump, Mary Trump is quite able to string two or more sentences together in a lucid manner.
This is one tome that will not be reposted immediately. I am passing it on to friends and family. To me, decency matters. Although I find the topic thoroughly disgusting, I do believe it is an important book that everyone in the USA should read.

Good information on what made Trump Trump. It's a complicated journey but full of good information. Little bit of revenge but not much, just a lot of interesting data.

Very interesting book. It certainly explains a LOT. Theirs was the epitome of a dysunctional family. I especially liked the parts about Atlantic City, because I lived through his reign there.Things aren't always what they appear to be. The only thing I found missing was there should have been some family photos in the book. I am not surprised if they never took any, though.
