From the back cover: "In a small town like Taviscombe, England, everyone knows everything about everyone-thanks to the dedicated efforts of local gossips and busybodies. So when the extremely unsavory Gordon Masefield is murdered, word of mouth spreads like fire...and brings out the worst in people.
Locals and the law are pointing the finger at Sheila Malory's future daughter-in-law. Now Mrs. Malory must use her wits and her contacts to untangle the truth and discover who really killed Gordon-before rumor becomes motive, and speculation becomes deadly..."

I find the Mrs. Malory books a refreshing change from the usual series. A widow with a cat and a dog, she is calm, cool, and collected in her detecting endeavors. In this one, she must try to find out who murdered an extremely distasteful attorney after her daughter-in-law to be unwisely threw him to the floor for unwanted sexual advances.

This is a classic cozy, set in a British village and a charming escapist little book. Sheila Malory is warm and kind mother and widow who is always ready to help her neigbors. Her maternal traits tend to elicit confidences, and her sleuthing capabilities are first-rate.
