A modern children's classic enjoyed by all ages. About intelligent rats from a lab experiment who, with the help of a couple of equally intelligent mice, escape and set up a model colony with all mod-cons. One of the smart mice marries and now his widow desperately needs help from the Rats of NIMH to save her little sons life.

Wonderful book, upon which the movie "The Secret of NIMH" was based.

The entire NIMH series was my FAVORITE when I was a kid!! I loved Justin... I loved the Don Bluth film of The Secret Of NIMH, even though they took their liberties with the story (Mrs. Frisby & The Rats of NIMH was the original book title)... But the rest of the series, Racso/RT Margaret were simply excellent stories as well.

My love of these stories also led into my deep devotion to the Redwall series of books. I still own all three NIMH books somewhere in the boxes of my childhood things, though long ago I had to let my Redwall books go (all together as a series on ebay... oh so sad the life of a broke college student)!

I would reccomend either series with all of my book-loving heart. They are both very special to me.

This was quite a lovely story! I grew up (as many did) watching the cartoon. The first half of this book is pretty similar to the cartoon, but Jeremy the crow isn't stupid at all. I loved how there was so much detail of what happened in the lab. There was no crazy magic stone in this, Jenner "the bad rat" wasn't bad at all and was only talked about but never met Mrs. Frisby. It was about the intelligence that the rats gained while going through their tests and how they wanted to create their own civilization instead of depending on humans and stealing from them so often. Mrs. Frisby learns a lot about her husband Jonathan as she hopes that her youngest mouse would not die of pneumonia. I'm glad that I finally decided to read this.

Doesn't seem possible that I could care so much about a fictional rat ð¥²

The original classic, before the movie makers changed her name.
