This is a delightful story of Mr. Popper who has enough trouble supporting his own family and then suddenly finds himself with the additional burden of twelve penguins to feed.This book is quite hilarious and extremely funny to read for any child.

Mr. Popper dreamed of far away lands and exotic animals, but he was stuck in a job he didn't care for and a little house with a wife he loved and his two children. This all changed when he recieves a special package in the mail. This a fun tail about a family's adventure with fame and all the things that can happen along the way.

This book is just so much fun. I read it aloud to two of my kids, then we also listened to it on audio a few years later so the younger one could also enjoy it. It made us laugh so many times. I think it would be a good book to help with kids understanding that not everyone fits the mold of what society thinks they should be as Mr. Popper is not just an average kind of guy. In addition to being a great read aloud it is also good for grade 4-6 kids (or older) to read on their own.

One of my favorite children's books! Mr. Popper is a house painter who's fascinated with polar exploration. He writes an explorer and receives his very own Antarctic penguin! And the fun begins! You'll laugh and laugh and laugh!

I am 70+ years old, but I can STILL remember being read this book when I was in grade school. It gave me a love for books which continues to this day. So thank you, Sister Sylvia, for instilling in me the "Need to Read."
This children's classic was written by the Atwater's, ahusband and wife team, in 1938 and still is very popular. House painter, insatiable reader and dreamer Mr. Popper writes to Admiral Drake and receives back a bevy of penguins. And now he has to figure out how to afford family and penguins.
You know a book is good when your 6 and 9 year olds laugh out loud and beg you to repeat sections because they love it! This is a sweet wonderful read. I think it is part of Sonlight K or 1 - or was several years ago.
