On her own and taking care of her little sister from the age of 18, Claire Prescott has never been one to believe in fairy tales. Yet when she has to present a paper at a Pride and Prejudice seminar as an emergency substitution for her sister, Claire finds her self caught up in the beauty of Oxford. And when handsome and aristocratic James walks into the room she feels an immediate spark. She slowly begins to think that for once the fairy tale can be hers... if she can overlook the fact that she has a negligent, sports nut of a boyfriend back at home in the states.

To complicate matters further, she meets a dotty older woman who invites her back to her storybook cottage. There Harriet swears Claire to secrecy and shows her a partial manuscript First Impressions by Jane Austen which was later re-written as Price and Prejudice. In First Impressions, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy's relationship has a very different outcome. Due to this fact there is more than one person out to keep Claire and Harriet apart.

Mr. Darcy Broke My Heart is a sweet romantic tale. It was kind of like reading two books in one. You have Claire and her relationships with James, her boyfriend Neil and her sister plus you have the additional story within a story regarding First Impressions. I really enjoyed the way the two weave together in one delightful read. I recommend this one to anyone who loves contemporary fiction or is a Jane Austen fan.

Very much along the same lines as her other book "Jane Austen Ruined My Life" which I enjoyed but this one I found to be very repetitive and couldn't even finish the book.

This book is very much in the same vein as its predecessor, "Jane Austen Ruined My Life". While the scholarship and research still shows, I found it a little fluffier than "JARML" although the message is still the same -- responsibility for ourselves and our actions. Still a fun, literary mystery tale and I hope that this is #2 in what someday we will recognize as the "Formidables" series. Keep 'em coming Beth Pattillo, these books are so much fun!

I am not even sure why guidepost was the publisher of this book. There wasnt any really religious or spiritual overtones what so ever.

I have not yet read Jane Austen Ruined my life. I am not a Jane-ite or a Darcey drooler. But I did enjoy this book. I do think it got preachy at times about how wonderful and timeless Jane Austen life lessons are. But over all the life lessons that they were pulling out of Pride and Prejudice were on the mark.

Another aspect of the book that I enjoyed was that I wasnt sure which way the romance of Claire would go, or how the original manuscript written by Jane Austen would turn out. I learned a great deal about Jane Austen, and Pride and Prejudice. I loved the book, cause it clipped along and kept my interest.

I would read more by this author, just to see if she is more religious in other books.

I thought this was going to be better than it was. It kept my interest, but I wasnt completely satisfied with it. I think the problem was with the establishment of the characters (and not just the secondary characters, but also the love interest).
