Timoteo, a surgeon has just found out that his daughter, Angela, was in an accident and she is in the same hospital where he works. She is in surgery. Noone knows if she will make it. As Timoteo waiting outside the OR, he begins to talk to Angela. He tells her about an affair he had 15 years ago, before Angela was born. He name was Italia and even though he was somewhat disgusted by her, he became obsessed with her. Timoteo purges himself, he doesn't hide anything. You love him on one page, you hate him on the next and yet, you can't help but feel his pain, his confussion. Timoteo is looking back at what he did 15 years ago and he is trying to figure out if he deserves to have Angela alive and well.
One the main theme of this book is rain. It's everywhere. On the day Angela was in an accident, on the day Timoteo spots Italia again after not seeing her for a while, and so on...It is almost like Timoteo is trying to wash himself off. He is trying to become clean hoping that it will save Angela's life...

I really enjoyed reading this book. I couldn't put it down. Usually with books like this I can usually figure out what is going to happen next before I read it. This one surprised me a little a couple of times. The story itself is very down to earth and the end is just plain sad! I would read more from this author if they ever print it in english.
