Putin's Russia and the possible start of a new cold war is being discussed increasingly in the news. As usual, Daniel Silva is current in international politics and incorporates the headlines into the plot of Moscow Rules.

The opening finds Gabriel Allon enjoying his honeymoon. As usual, he is interrupted by Shamron who calls him away for an errand that is supposed to last a few hours, but winds up taking days and results in a close brush with death for Gabriel and his fellow operatives.

I found the first half of this book slow, perhaps because Silva spends more time than usual introducing Gabriel (and the reader) to Russia and its issues. During the second half the action ramps up and there are elaborate schemes, beatings, shootouts, and other typical (yet very welcome) Silva plot elements. Moscow Rules is not the best of the series, but it is a nice change of scenery.

A Gabriel Allon novel. I have read all of Silva's novels and have never been disappointed. Silva winds up a thrilling tale in each book. I finished this one while on vacation and went out that night to buy the sequel. This book takes you into present-day Moscow as well as Italy, France, and England. If you have read Gabriel novels before, you'll be re-acquainted with some old friends in this one.

Love this book! Being Russian myself, I realized how much research was done and how deeply Daniel Silva understands the mentality of people in Russia. I read all of his books and never got dissapointed.

This was my first Daniel Silva book. I posted mine and had to mail it a few hours later! I really enjoyed it. I am now waiting for 2 other Daniel Silva books to arrive.

Always a believable story line with people you can relate to - even the bad guys.
I enjoy the travel too; the stories are in towns of interest, not only "a small village near Leeds".

One of the better books in this series, it paints a bleak picture of the Russia of today and the corruption at its core. As always Gabriel Allon gets drawn into a crisis that would affect the world if it gets carried out. Enjoyed this installment of the series and am looking forward to what comes next.
