I have to say that MORRIGAN'S CROSS is the very first book of Ms. Roberts' that I didn't care for; didn't, in fact, even finish. It could be my own personal dislike of historical romance, but as this was more in the time travel/paranormal vein, I don't think that's true. The problem, at least for me, was unlikeable characters I couldn't relate to, coupled with too many Irish, Gaelic, and unfamiliar terms that the book's added glossary only complicated.

I won't knock Ms. Roberts, because she is an unbelievably talented author who I admire. I'm also the world's largest Eve Dallas fan, and have loved THE KEY TRILOGY and all of her romantic suspense releases. Let's just say that, for me, MORRIGAN'S CROSS was a miss, instead of Ms. Roberts' usual hit.

I loved this book - It is about witches, sorcerors and vampyres but it was a really good read with so much intesnity. The building of the main characters were fantastic and it totallyl left me begging for the 2nd in the trilogy set. I can't wait to see what happens next and if the worlds will be saved.

For Some reason it took me a bit to get into this one, Which is unusual for a Nora Roberts book. But it did get me sucked in and it was again well written and the story off a multitude of characters woven together.
Cian is turned into a vampire in 1128. His Brother Hoyt, a great sorcerer, begins a journey to get his back that takes him to modern day New York and Ireland. 6 are required for his task. He convinces his vampire brother to join him. It is a challenge for their small group to stay clear of the vampires and learn to fight them. A great story with magic and the supernatural woven in.

Book 1 of the Circle trilogy, which was all in all a good read. Not too many surprises would be my only criticism...you can see the end coming a mile off, but very satisfying all the same.

...In which our heroes' histories are brought to light, and there is a drawing together of forces, both dark and light, at the behest of the Goddess Morrigan.

I am usually a fan of The Nora's so it was extra disappointing to read this start to a series and be instantly struck by such problems with it.

The description section gives you a fine idea of the plot, so I'll skip that and go right to my issues with the characterizations. The main characters of this book, Hoyt and Glenna, are fairly typical romantic lead types. You may or may not like those types, but there's nothing uncommon about them. So what's my problem with this book? In a nutshell, what is up with the character of King? Let's run through the stereotypes here, shall we? Big, ugly, scary, black guy, but once you get past that he's a softy with a heart of gold? Been there, done that. With the exception of his loyalty, which he has in spades having been rescued from the mean streets of East LA as a child, blahblahblabbityblah, he is everything the heroes are not. Could he be more Other? Needless to say, despite the fact that in her trilogies, there will always be 3 couples in the end, since it's not a romance if there's no Happily Ever After, there is no HEA for King. And yet, if you look at what his role is in terms of the plot, there is no reason why King had to be Black, had to be big, had to be scary, had to be ugly and/or have mismatched eyes. It all just serves to make him distinct and Other and Not The Hero. At first I was ready to be surprised and delighted by an interracial romance in a future book in the series with this atypical hero. Sadly, not only does this not happen, what does happen is par for the course, for authors trying to make their books more "diverse" without thinking beyond "white is normal, therefore all else is..." It is tiresome, stale, and I had hoped for better.

As if that wasn't enough to hate, what's with the evil, bisexual, pedophile vampire queen? What message are we meant to take from this? That she's extra evil because she'll have sex with anyone? Not just other women, but even children?! I know romance is a genre that clings to heteronormative standards, but this was beyond the beyond. I prefer my romances without a big heaping helping of homophobia.

So, the token non-white character gets buried under heaps and piles of Not Like Us and a blow is struck on behalf of monogomous heterosexuality by this villain = pervert depiction. On behalf of all the non-white, non-heterosexual readers of romance, thanks a lot Nora.

Loved this book. Different from any other Robert's books that I've read in that it is more "gothic" but still radiates with the Irish flair she likes. Couldn't wait to read the next in the trilogy.

I was so excited to start the Circle Triology. But I could not get into Morrigan's Cross. This is so unusual for a Nora Roberts novel. Normally, I am captivated from page one and can't put her novels down. I struggled through half of this book, and finally gave up. I kept trying to go back to it, but had no interest in continuing the book. I hate not finishing books, but this one I could not stand to read. Might be that it was related to vampires, or that none of the characters appealed to me. I normally find something in Nora Robert's characters that I can identify with, but this book was the exception. I gave up and finally decided to get rid of the entire trilogy. What a disppointment!

Another great good in another great trilogy from Nora Roberts. I love the interwoven stories from one book to the others...the characters are deep... you feel as if they are real~ your friends. Morrigan's Cross centers on Hoyt, a wizard from the 12th century and Glenna, a modern day witch. The characters you meet along the journey are rich and full of color. I read this series back-to-back...my favorite way to read a really good trilogy! This is not a "light read"... the plot is deep but worth the attention!!!

I'll admit that I'm a Nora Roberts fan -- came late to it, but it hasn't taken long to appreciate her talent. This book, however, surpasses any other by her that I've read. It captured me in the first sentence and kept me going until the last page. Thank goodness I had the foresight to have traded for all three books, so I don't have to wait for the second in the trilogy.

If you know Nora Roberts, you'll love this book. If you don't know her, this one will hook you for certain!

Morrigan's Cross is a tale of a dark nature. If you have ever read the Key Trilogy by Nora Roberts you will understand what I mean when I say she has a way with bringing out the darkness in her mystical, magical tales. The books keeps you in suspense, and you never knows whats going to happen on the next page. This is not a book where you can guess the ending just by reading the first chapter. This book is definitely a Nora Roberts quality book! I would recommend this to others!

I have read so many of Nora Robert's books and this series is by far my top choice. The very first book I read of hers happens to be my favorite, Midnight Bayou, but I can say that this series is now right up there. My husband had purchased a cd at the time I was reading this series and every single one of their songs matched a scene in the books. It was creepy and all the more memorable for me. The band was Spartan and it is there second cd. I think it's called Three. Check it out!!

I am not a die-hard Nora Roberts fan. I don't read everything she writes (or ghostwrites). I have read TWO of her "magically inclined" trilogies, this was the second (I read Three Sisters Island trilogy first). I loved all the books from both trilogies and could not reccomend them more.

The Circle trilogy was fun and romantic and exciting. I have always loved and hated that you can tell who everyone is going to end up with as the trilogy goes on, but the pace and the excitement of these books were fantastic, and such a change of gears from Three Sisters, but still in a good way.

Loved every bit of all three books. A great read. Grab the whole series if you can. :-)

I enjoyed this book. The time travel was kept to a minimum and done well. Written under the premise of an old man telling a story to children makes it even more believable, although I forgot about this till the end. Couldn't put this book down till it was finished. The story takes you on a magical journey beginning in 12th century Ireland to the present day, with the Sorcerer Hoyt and his Vampire brother Cian battling the Vampire Queen Lilith. In the story you are introduced to six central characters, all with unique talents and abilities that will be utilized to battle Lilith and the Vampire army she is creating in order to take over the world, and emphasis on the relationship between 12th Century Sorcerer Hoyt and present day Wiccan Glenna. The first in another trilogy from Nora Roberts. Of course, it follows her normal formula of three female and three male characters that come together and each couples up.

Our cast of characters for this trilogy:
Hoyt Mac Cionaoith/McKenna a 12th century Irish sorcerer and descendant of Morrigan, the faerie queen. He seeks to avenge the death of his brother, Cian.
Cian (Cane) Mc Cionaoith/McKenna Hoyts neer-do-well twin brother, his partying and womanizing has caused him to become a victim of Lilith, the vampire queen, who has turned him into a vampire. In the 21st century, he owns a popular and successful New York night club.
Glenna Ward a hereditary witch and artist from the 21st century. She has visions and joins forces with the McKenna brothers to defeat Lilith.
Moira of Geall the future queen of Gaell, an ancient Irish land. Her mother has been killed by Liliths vampires and she will also join forces with the Hoyt, Cian and Glenna to defeat Lilith and return to the Gaell to seek her crown.
Larkin of Gaell cousin of Moira and a shape-shifter, he too comes with Moira to join forces against Lilith.
Blair Nola Bridget Murphy a 21st century demon hunter and a descendant of Hoyt and Cians sister, Nola. Sent to Ireland by Morrigan to join the hunt.

The story opens with a grandfather telling stories to his grandchildren . . .

We meet Hoyt as he fights Lilith and Cian after she has turned Cian into a vampire. Using his sorcerers powers he is able to defeat them. He is then sent by Morrigan to the dance to go forward to the 21st century to defeat Lilith and save his family. He asks Morrigan to protect his family that he leaves behind and she creates for him seven crosses for each of his surviving family members.

His trip through the dance takes him to modern day New York City where his brother Cian runs a successful and popular night club. He is very wealthy and has not sought humans to feed off for years. He has a man named King who works as his body guard. He finds Cian, who is now going by the name Cane, and convinces him that he needs to join him in Ireland to defeat Lilith.

Glenna Ward is an artist and photographer working in New York City. She is also a hereditary witch. One day she is given messages to find the man in a portrait she has drawn, Hoyt McKenna. She goes out into the city and eventually finds Cian, Hoyt and his security guard, King.

They form the first four members of the circle to defeat Lilith: Hoyt, Cian, a witch, Glenna; and a warrior, King. They fly to Ireland and Cians home ther where they hope to meet the other two members of their circle there -- a scholar and one with many shapes.

At the same time, in the mythical land of Gaell, Moiras mother, the queen, has been viciously killed by vampires. Despite her grief, she follows the command she receives from Morrigan to go to The Dance and fight Lilith. She leaves the people of Gaell with no leader, as she refuses to attempt to remove the sword from the stone to determine if she is the next ruler of Gaell until Lilith has been defeated. Her cousin, Larkin, a shape-shifter, insists on travelling with her. The two go to the Dance and travel to modern day Ireland.

They meet up with the circle members from New York and begin training to defeat the vampires while living at Cians home. A romance between Hoyt and Glenna develops as this book is their love story.

Through a sad turn of events, they learn that King is not the warrior of the circle and they meet Blair Murphy, a demon hunter from Chicago. She joins the team, although somewhat skeptically as she does not trust Cian since its her lifes mission to kill and destroy vampires.

An enjoyable story but somewhat predictable as it is a Nora Roberts trilogy. One of the things that does kind of bother me is that the story is obviously taking place in County Clare (she specifically says that Hoyt lives in An Clar which is County Clare) but makes many references to things being in Chiarrai (County Kerry.) Which is geographically close to County Clare, but in the 12th century and the Gaell times, it would have been a place someone from Clar probably would not have traveled often.

Whenever I read one of Nora Roberts books, I get so involved in it and want it to go on and on. I did not know this was a Trilogy until I got to the end. Oh, goody, I will have to order the 2nd and 3rd books right away!! I was really delighted with this book. It is so very exciting! Nora Roberts' books are so facinating. I have not found one I did not love yet.

I got this book at a clearance book sale for 10 cents. I normally don't like Nora Roberts but this book was excellent. The characters are lively and exciting. The love stories are believable and exciting. This book was definetly one of the better ones of her writings. If you have never read Nora Roberts then start with this trilogy. Its sci fi fantasy meets romance and it rocks.

Good story -- very different from Nora Roberts typical stories. First in the Circle trilogy, this book is about a group of six who have come from different times and worlds at the request of the gods to fight the queen vampiress and of course there is a love story in there for good measure too.
Not my all time favorite, but will read the second in the trilogy when it comes out.

like all of Nora Robers' tales, it is interesting, but the subject matter, people from different centuries and backgrounds banding the world to fight off the intended "Hitler" like spreading control of the world, is for me a bit mutch. But the story does keep one turing the pages. I hope she gets the other two books written quickly so she can go back to writing her regular genre which is much, much better.

I really loved this book. It was so different from some of her other books & nicely done! A lot of Nora's books, especially her older ones, are too "cookie cutter" without a spot of originality in them, but not so with this one. Up until now the Three Sisters Island Trilogy and the In The Garden Trilogy have been my favorites, but this one surpassed them. I really liked the blending of characters from various times & places and the overall theme. This one surprised me with how much I liked it. Well done.

Hoyt must find the other 5 people to form the Circle of Six to fight Lilith, who are from other worlds and times. Robert's style overcomes the problems of reality/time travel/fantasy (for those not into this type of book)to catch the reader up in her tale.
