I enjoy Cheryl Mendelson's work very much. Her first novel took me right out of West Virginia and to Morningside Heights among the introspective, cultivated denizen therein. It was like nothing I'd read before and, therefore, very refreshing. Her characters are explored interiorly with greatest care and emerge as real people to the reader, people you enjoy engaging with. I have passed this book along to my New York friend from Central Park West. She can determine what chords this will sound in her 50 years of experience there, although it's a short way from Morningside Heights.

I now want to plow back into "Home Comforts," Ms. Mendelson's home arts book of great heft, not so much to absorb the housekeeping details as to glean authorial indicators and biographical matter.
