And Every Morning the Way Home Gets Longer and Longer by Fredrik Backman is a novella that depicts with grace and sensitivity the loss of a human mind to dementia. The book manages in its simplicity to completely involve me in the story. I can picture the characters and the square. I can feel the anguish and still find a smile, both brought about by the love captured in this book. This is a book to be experienced and then remembered for a very long time.

A very heartwarming and sentimental read about love and growing old. It battles the effects of slowing losing your mind and how difficult it is for the person experiencing it and to their loved ones. It was a short read but very sweet nonetheless.

A short sentimental tale of a grandfather who is losing his memories as he tries to hold on to what matters most. He spends his time reminiscing about his life and the roads taken with those he loves. Sweet and enjoyable, as all Backman's writing is.

Very sweet read about the relationship between a boy and his grandfather and father/son as affected by dementia and time.

Short, easy to read in one sitting. A dear friend's husband is suffering from Alzheimer's and I wondered what this novella would show me about it. It seems such a terrifying thing to lose someone long before they die. I like that Noah loves his Grandpa so much he thinks of ways to help like reminding him who he is and who his Grandma was. Noah has so many strong memories of his Grandpa he isn't bogged down by the fear and sadness, he seems happy just to be in whatever moment he can be with his Grandpa.

A sweet and poignant novella sharing the fear of losing one's mind to old age. Written with warmth and care, showing us how love can make the end of life so much easier to bear. The imagery was perfect as I could feel myself sitting in the square with Grandpa and Noah, feeling the wind on my face. Or crouched in the green tent in the hospital hallway. Backman has great talent in describing feelings and wrapping them into family hearts.
