Very much the middle book of a trilogy. While the story was decent, it was not as good as the first book, but it left me dying to start the third book. It seemed like there was too many loose ends and too much foreshadowing.

When we last saw the Fyne sisters, witches all, in The Sun Witch (2004), Sophie was on the run with her husband, Kane, their baby daughter, and Kane's rebel troops. This book opens with imperial troops capturing Juliet and Isadora. Isadora uses her magic to kill the soldier closest to her to instill fear in her captors. Juliet is captured by Ryn, an Anwyn, who becomes a wolf at night and claims her as his life mate. More than that, she is part of an Anwyn prophecy, and she doesn't like it. Worst still, she is falling for her brave wolf-man, which is not a good thing, because the Fyne sisters are under a curse that kills the man they love before his thirtieth birthday. Isadora is imprisoned in the emperor's castle, her fate resting in the hands of the capricious and often sadistic queen. Like its predecessor, this is a cliff-hanger. Will Isadora use her magic for the forces of darkness? Will 29-year-old Kane survive his next birthday? Will Juliet accept her destiny? Will the evil emperor triumph?

The perfect choice when you want a lighthearted and fun yet sensual romance...with all the magic of a fairy tale.

This second book of Jones trilogy was enjoyable and I was pleased with the development of the story, although at times it was tedious and repetitious. Jones knows how to weave a story and create characters that are entertaining to her readers, but honestly this book was more filler than anything else. She could have taken the most important parts of the story, dropped the repetition--how many times do we have to be told that Ryn was beautiful, muscled, and quick?--and made the Fyne sister's stories into a sequel instead of a trilogy--oh wait--that wouldn't sell as many books, would it? This one is worth a read, even if only for the sex scenes.

Second book in the series. Well written but not as captivating (for me) as the Sun Witch or the Star Witch. Out of the three this was my least favorite, but it was still a great read despite its flaws.

this book is great makes you think magic and witches do exist... magic, romance, fantasy... and of course danger.. you have to read this book and also the first one in this trilogy THE SUN WITCH Ican't wait for the STAR WITCH to come out in June...

It is well devaloped book in this series but all the 3 Fyne Witches are a good read.
There is a steady decline in the quality of the books though, from the best (Fyne Witches) to the 'manufacturing' worst.
(Emperor's Brides). So enjoy this series and check the other books out before you get them.

The next series (Children of the sun) rent them, only two of the 3 books are good to OK read.
The third series (Emperor's Brides) is a total bummer all 3 of them flat and without a spark.
There is indication that there will be another series, (in the 22 nights for sure).
And with the steady decline in this authors writing and imagination I'm pretty sure I will pass on those...
Too bad..... ;0(

This is the second in a the trilogy, THE SUN WITCH, THE MOON WITCH, & THE STAR WITCH. I enjoyed all 3 but THE MOON WITCH just leaves to much hanging and you must read the the last in the trilogy to have the rest of the story. All 3 books are so entwined that you should have them all so that they can be read one after the other.

This book is the story of the middle of the Fyne sisters and how she came into her power as witch and woman.

Ryn has dreamed of her and comes for her right about the time the Emperor's men come for her and her sister!

I enjoyed this book much more than the first book. The relationship between Ryn and Juliet is a little.. Stockholm Syndrome-y..
This book, like The Sun Witch, bothered me with it's excessive use of the letter "y" in names of people and places. Columbyana, Sebestyen, Merryl, Nelyk, Beckyts, Fyne, Thayne, Tryfyn, Evyn, Sulyen, Anwyn, Ryn.. It just got on my nerves, but I did my best to ignore it because the story was so good.
Very much a book worth reading.

I thought this book was just as good as The Sun Witch, but I didn't like Juliet and Ryn as much. I thought Juliet was a prude and her insistence on denying her destiny got annoying really fast. Ryn had a cave-man mentality that made sense for the story, but was equally annoying.

Even though Liane and Sebestyen are the "villains", I think they are very interesting characters and I hope they get a HEA.

This is part 2 of a series, and although the author does a good job of explaining what you missed if you start with this one, as I did, it would be best to read them in order. This story is not exclusive to Juliet and Ryn, but also continues the story of her two sisters, and a few others as well.

It was an interesting change to see the shapeshifters as a race of people, with their own kingdom, but the story of Ryn and Juliet left me unsatisfied. It was hot at the beginning, but then seemed to be hastily wrapped up at the end. Not sure I will get book 1 or 3 to continue the series.
