I'm a big fan of Joe Lansdale. I've read most of his Hap and Leonard books as well as several of his stand alone novels. Enjoyed them all. Moon Lake is a stand alone taking place as usual in Lansdale's stomping grounds of East Texas. The protagonist, Daniel Russell, was thirteen in 1968 when his father drove their big old Buick off the bridge and into Moon Lake trying to kill them both. But Daniel survives and is rescued by a young black girl named Ronnie. Having no place to stay, he stays with Ronnie's family for several months and then is reunited with his aunt and moves away to Tyler, Texas. Ten years later in 1978, he returns to his home town and while trying to find out why his father did what he did, he becomes enmeshed in the town's sordid past and crimes committed throughout the years by the town's city council to enrich themselves.

This one was really a shocker from Lansdale. The deeds committed by the town leaders were disturbing and abhorrent. Some of the vilest characters ever were described in this book. I still have several Lansdale books sitting on my shelves waiting to be read and I'll be looking forward to doing so soon.
