Beautiful gift book.

Millions of readers have fallen in love with Jan Bretts The Mitten, and over 2.5 million copies have been sold since publication in 1989. This striking oversized anniversary edition with a silver foil jacket and a fresh image of the woodland animals will attract fans old and new, and adult collectors of Jan Bretts books.
Set in a snowy forest, the fun begins when, one by one, animals crawl into Nickis lost white mitten to get warm until the bear sneezes, sending the animals flying up and out of the mitten. On each turn of the page, Jan hints at what animal is coming next in her signature borders, inspired by Ukrainian folk art.

Its a childhood classic. We used it as part of our book advent reading to count down to Christmas.

A boy named Nicki loses his snow-white mitten. He can't find it in the snow-but the woodland animals do! Based on a Ukranian folk tale.

As usual, beautiful,detailed illustrations!

Ages 4-8 or so.

The illustrations of this book and wonderful and the story kept the attention of twenty three kindergarten students for many readings. The story is about a grandmother who knits mittens for her grandson. When he loses a mitten outside it is discovered by a mole as a warm location. As the story keps going more and more animals try to take up space in the mitten. I liked that there is some repetition on each page as to the order that each animals found the mitten. The last page of the story is just a picture so it was left open ended as to what the grandmother must be thinking when she compares the two mittens.

Story: just alright Artwork: top notch

The illustrations are detailed and beautiful - I keeps noticing more things every time I look at this board book with my child! Top notch job there. The story ... meh. Many have complained elsewhere that the animals are bullied into being let inside the mitten, maybe that's the case in a different version, but that's not true for the board book. The animals do force their way in, but nothing is noted about any creature being scared of another. No young child is going to care that the story doesn't make any sense with being able to fit so many creatures in one mitten -they will think its very silly. The way the story is told is nothing special, though. I love the book just for the charming illustrations. Story aside, the artwork is sure to delight all ages.
