Personally, I didn't get through the first two chapters. The plot sounded intriguing, but I was turned off by the language.

Don't miss this book if you enjoy a good, fast-paced read with a legal bent to it. The review from Kirkus Associates does a much better job of describing the book than I can, so I'll leave that to them. Had never read any of Lisa Scottoline's novels before, but after finishing MISTAKEN IDENTITY, I immediately ordered her previous novel, ROUGH JUSTICE.

Ms. Scottoline's characters are real, and it doesn't take long to realize that she writes from personal experience and observation. She has been described as the "female John Grisham," but that description doesn't do her justice. Like Grisham, her past legal experience has paid off with her ability to create some very believable characters.

(...)it's worth the visit to learn a bit more about the author. You'll find a message board and online reviews there as well. That's where I found out that MISTAKEN IDENTY has evidently been optioned for development into a television series.

Looking forward to reading all of her previous novels.

Another page-turner by Lisa Scottoline. Be sure to read this before reading "Dead Ringer." Dead Ringer is the sequel to Mistaken Identity. They are both awesome books.

Interesting book. It would have been much better if edited to 300 pages instead of almost 500. Frequently, a sentence would have worked better and cleaner than several paragraphs. It's a 1999 book, so perhaps the author learned this. The characters are interesting. The plot lines are sometimes pretty farfetched. Good to read a book centered on professional women!

My husband and I read this book in the car. It kept us wanting to take extra drives to see what happened next! A legal thriller with likeable characters, some courtroom drama, some bad guys and good guys, some PI work, mixed in with occasional humor made it a great read!

Great story and plot, however full of 4-letter words. I mean, every character had a foul mouth. Totally unnecessary! Also, if you don't like the Lord's name taken in vain, then you won't enjoy this book. Even though it was a great story, the language ruined it for me and I only read a few chapters. This was my 3rd book by this author. The first was in Reader's Digest Condensed Books, so the language was cleaned up. I was so impressed with that story that I requested 2 from PBS. Of the two PBS books, this one was the worst. I won't read another one by this author.

I loved this book! It had everything from serious mystery, corruption, drugs, violence, a tiny bit of romance, family issues, and the law/justice system all thrown in together. But surprising enough, it didn't overwhelm or jumble up the story like I was afraid it would. There were times I found myself laughing out loud, being angry and frustrated, to even crying once. THIS is how I like my books to be...really get me totally lost and involved so I forget real life for a while and can submerge myself in the characters lives I'm reading about. I will definately be reading more Lisa Scottoline books in the future. Totally awesome!

A legal thriller, a courtroom drama, and an exploration of the emotional bonds that define our lives and those we love, Mistaken Identity is a masterful achievement that takes the legal thriller to a new level as it resoundingly confirms Lisa Scottoline's place as one of the premier writers of suspense fiction today.

Lisa Scottoline has been praised as "the female John Grisham" by People Magazine and confirms that honor with her taut new thriller, Mistaken Identity. Kirkus, in a starred review, calls it her "biggest book yet" and the Coca Cola Company chose Mistaken Identity to promote the pleasures of reading by putting an excerpt in 10 million packages of Diet Coke

When confronted with the most challenging and the most personal case of her legal career, Bennie Rosato--an expert on police corruption--questions everything she has learned as a criminal attorney, and everyone she considers to be family. During a visit behind the bars of Philadelphia's Central Corrections facility, Bennie is shocked to discover that an inmate bears a striking physical resemblance to herself. The prisoner, Alice Connolly, stands accused of murdering her cop boyfriend Anthony Della Porta, and the case reeks of a police conspiracy. Connolly convinces Bennie to defend her in court. Bennie feels confused, intrigued, and even somewhat elated by this clone of herself, and dives head first into a bubbling cauldron of corruption, drugs, murder, and assault--mixed in with a thought-provoking subplot that questions the intricacies of legal ethics.

Life holds few surprises for Bennie Rosato, head of her own Philadelphia law firm. As a criminal attorney now specializing in police misconduct cases, she's seen the noblest and most deviant aspects of human nature. But nothing can prepare her for the moment she enters a maximum-security prison to meet her new client, Alice Connoly, face to face. Accused of brutally murdering her lover, a highly decorated police detective, Connolly claims the police framed her. A defendant protesting her innocence is not unusual for Bennie. What shocks her is that Connolly bears an uncanny resemblance to her. "Pleased to meet you. I'm your twin. Your identical twin," Connolly tells the astonished lawyer. But Bennie grew up as an only child, or so she thought. She has a law firm, a handsome young lover, and a golden retriever;she doesn't have a twin. Or does she? Connolly knows too many intimate details about Bennie's life and family for the resemblance to be just coincidental. And there is something about the woman that compells the intrigued attorney to defend her, against her better judgement. Taking the case with the trial only a week away, Bennie plunges into the mystery of the murder, as well as her own identity and her family's dark secrets. Is Connolly innocent? And is she Bennie's unknown sister? It is not until Bennie takes the case to verdict that she will finally learn the truth, which threatens to change her life.
