Alys Clare did a great job on this book! It has murder, mystery, a bit of romance, and enough mysticism to add an intriguing element to the story. It is well written, the characters are well developed, and it moves at a pace to keep the reader's interest. This is the second in the Aelf Fen series but did not depend on the previous book for understanding. The descriptions of the area and people in the 11th century were realistic in that Ms. Clare, though not dwelling on them, let us know just how primitive the people lived while the Norman cathedral was being built to on top of a Catholic church while the people in the area were living in hovels. Good book! I'll go back and get Book 1 now while looking forward to Book 3.
