It's clear the author knows how to string words together, it's just that it seems as though he doesn't know what he wants this book to be when it grows up. Part travel log, part archeological research, part biography. The book tends to ramble and, as a result, can be come boring and unsatisfying. If the author edited out about half of the 244 pages, it might have been a good, quick, interesting read. As it is, it verges on the annoying.
