With sixty full color paintings & photographs, a perfect gift for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one
As her father enters hospice far away from her
and Apifera, the author is left to grapple with
his eventual passing. The internal conversations
she has with many of the adopted barnyard
creatures-The Misfits, as she calls them-as well
as the fields and nature around her, help her
navigate grief and accept death as yet another
form of life.
Holding them all up is the farm, Apifera, with her
working flock of sheep, and fruit and vegetables
birthed from her dirt. Rabbits, turtles, deer,
chinchillas and even moths, sense refuge here when
wounded. As Dunn massages the sore joints of an
old goat or communes amongst them without words,
a remarkable thing happens - the silence creates an
internal, safe space for her to float with memories,
fears and questions. The animals become conduits
of powerful messages that leave her with a better
understanding and compassion not only about her
father, but also about herself.
Katherine Dunn writes and paints under the big top sky of her Apifera Farm.
She is shpherdess and mother to old donkeys and handicapped goats and
many other Misfits. Her first book, "Creative Illustration Workshop" {Quarry}
was third in the Top Ten Amazon Editor Art Book 2010 list. Her paintings
