This is my first Julia Quinn novel, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Having heard her described as a "modern-day Jane Austen," I admit my expectations were high. Although I wouldn't go that far, I will say her humor and writing style are refreshing, and this is not your typical Romance Novel, in the best sense (although the cliched cover would suggest otherwise). The main female character is strong and believable, and the male is a little underdeveloped to the reader's perspective (had he been better explored, I might be willing to agree with the Austen comparisons) but the emotions Quinn conjures are real and heartfelt. Not sappy or maudlin, there are a few teary moments, and defintely out-loud laughs. The ending drags a bit while the couple experiences some farce-like misunderstandings that threaten to undo them, but all in all a very good read, one I will keep and re-read again and again.

This is the third in the Emma/Belle series. Splendid is first, then Dancing at Midnight. Dancing was even better than this one hero-wise, but Minx definitely is the most fun.

My FAVORITE Julia Quinn! The heroine, Henry, is totally unique. I have read all of Julia Quinn's books and this is the only one that I had such an emotional connection with that it made me cry, even though I knew everything would be okay in the end.

Minx is my all time favorite book by Julia Quinn, and that is saying a lot because she has written a lot of bestselling books. Its on my keeper shelf and I re-read it often.

Henry is a perfect romantic heroine; she is unaware of her beauty, but with good reason, she is spirited, and has great dialogue.

Dunford is the best romantic hero. He has appeared in several other Quinn books (at least two that I know of) and you can't wait for him to meet the woman who finally brings him to his knees.

They are a perfect match and some of the scenes are so sweet (when he buys her the yellow dress, when he sees her in her first ballgown, etc.) that you just say "awwwww" out loud.

William Dunford is shocked to learn he has inherited a title, property, and ward. On his visit to his new home in Cornwall, he finds Henrietta Barrett to be very unique. She single-handedly manages the estate, wears men's clothing, and calls herself "Henry". She's also afraid Dunford will try to take her home away from her, so she decides to drive him away instead.

This book had a fantastic start. Henry comes up with all sorts of plans to make Dunford think that country life is not for him. I found the story very amusing. The only drawback (and the reason I can't give this one 5 Stars), is the Big Misunderstanding in the last 50 pages of the book. Still, a great read. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

Not bad for her earlier books, but her later ones are better.

This was the final book in related series. 1st was Splendid, 2nd Dancing at Midnight. This was a great final book because William Dunford plays great roles in the previous two books and you just had to know what happens to his future.

I love Julia Quinn and this was one of the first of her stories that I read. Our hero has made a bit that he will not succumb to marriage within a years time frame. Then he inherits our heroine and sparks start to fly.

I thought this was a wonderful book! I loved "Henry". She was written as both strong and yet with a gentle heart. It took a while for Dunford to realize his heart but when he did he wasn't hesitant to tell her his feelings.

there is an awful mix-up towards the end and makes you want to smack an interferring society woman but it works out wonderfully in the end.

This book had a lot of tongue in cheek humor and had me laughing quite a bit! I have enjoyed Julia Quinn for years and I think this has to be one of her "funnier" books. It had me laughing outloud and my family saying "What's so funny?". It was a good read and an enjoyable story line. Always good to see the hero getting his just desserts from his match. I would read it again just for the fun of it!

It takes a minx to tempt a rogue and it takes a rougue to tame a minx.

This is a sweet historical romance set in England in 1816. The plot is: unsophisticated tomboy tames worldly rake. There was a bit of a Big Misunderstanding device thrown in near the end, just for dramatic tension, but it was soon resolved. Enjoyable read!

Different cover. Fun romance in Regency England with an endearing heroine who has an independent streak. The hero is a minor character in two other Julia Quinn novels.

I loved this book, Julia Quinn writes the best stories with lots of twists and turns, great tension and a happy ending. Can't ask for better than that! A great read.

Beautiful and feisty Henrietta Barrett has never followed the dictates of society. she manages her elderly guardian's estate, prefers to wear breeches rather than dresses and answers to the unlikely name of Henry. But when her guardian passes away, her beloved home falls into the hands of a distant cousin. William Dunford, London's most elusive bachelor, is stunned to learn that he's inherited property, a title and a ward bent on making his first visit his last. Henry is determined to continue running the cornwall estate without help from the handsome new lord, but Dunford is just as sure he can change things, starting with his wild young ward. But turning Henry into a lady makes her not only the darling of the ton, but an irresistible attraction to the man who thought he could never be tempted.
