I guessed the bad guy of this book about 1/3 in, complete with who and why, but that's just a knack of mine. I make my husband crazy guessing (correctly) tv plots all the time. Must be all the reading! But knowing what to expect didn't make this book any less creepy and shivery, and how it was all left on the last page---well---eeeee! This was a very good read!

Jackie Shepphard, a long-divorced attorney, moves from L.A. to a little town in Colorado, trying to shake the malaise she feels from her young son's death. It's hard to be accepted as the newcomer in a small town, but the handyman she hires is very friendly. Soon he becomes more than just a friend. She writes off his odd behaviors as understandable given what he's told her of his past, but when he becomes really bizarre she starts investigating.
This book was written in 1992. It's a workable "fem-jep" psychological thriller, very easy to figure out early what's really going on. Robyn Carr fans might like to search it out but I know a month from now I will have no memory of reading it. Still, it moves right along, it has (mostly) believable characters and good dialog.
