I found this a compelling read and read it in one sitting. The first quarter of the book is about the author's training to be a midwife, first in Scotland and then in the U.S. The remainder of the book was anecdotes of being a midwife to the Old Older Amish in the Lancaster, Pennsylvania area, and how those experiences came to color the author's approach to life. Thoughtfully written and respectful of the Amish traditions. I recommend this book enthusiastically!
