I really enjoyed this historical novel, set in 16th century Venice and Malta. The plot revolves around Jewish midwife Hannah, who is renowned for her skill in difficult births, and her husband Isaac, who has been sold into slavery on the island of Malta. The plot is fast-paced, suspenseful, and full of details of life in Venice.

The money would be enough for her to buy her husband, Isaacs, release, but if she is caught, it could mean death.
