Malcolm is dealing with centuries of Baggage from various traumas and choices he has made. He has many regrets. As a result he is a loner and has shut himself off from feelings and being around other people. That changes when he comes across Evangeline (Evie) and rescues her when she is in a car accident. Evie draws him in and he begins to feel.
I did like this, but felt the end (regarding Jason Wallace) was a bit anti-climatic. This does feature all the couples from previous books. It was nice to see where their relationships were. They've all come together and formed their own (chosen) family. And they love/protect that family. The dragon kings also play a significant role in this final book too.
I appreciated the acknowledgement that just because something is "bad," intent does matter and instead many things are shades of gray. The epilogue was nice and I liked that some of the couples didn't have children and some did.
Would not recommend this to someone who hasn't read the previous books.
