Nalo Hopkinson is a fantastic writer! I love that her books are great sci-fi/fantasy, but they're rooted in Caribbean culture. That's a perspective you don't find often in this genre, so it's a real breath of fresh air.

In this book, Tan-Tan is taken with her to the wild New Half-Way Tree, her home world's alternate universe twin, when her father commits a murder. Growing up there, she subjected to abuse from those closest to her and the book is about her coming to terms with that and finding her own strength and sense of self, while making the most of her new home.

Very imaginative and engrossing.
