Although this is one of my favorite vampire books, I want to offer a strong word of caution to readers unfamiliar with the Sonja Blue series. Sonja is an powerful dark heroine, and the plot is incredible ... but the violence is extreme. There is a rape scene early in the book that made my stomach turn, and I'm no stranger to graphic violence and sex (in books, that is). It's a great book and worth the read, as long as you don't have a weak stomach.
As to the hardback/paperback issue ... mine is paperback.

A fun, fast-paced, very violent trilogy of novels about Sonja Blue, a female vampire unlike other vampires - whom she hunts as she battles and learns to accept the monstrous part of herself. The first novel, "Sunglasses after Dark" is narratively the weakest, but effective in setting the tone and introducing our tough heroine. The second, "In the Blood" is the funniest - and the sexiest. The third, "Paint It Black" rounds out things nicely. One quip: I wish Collins had double-checked her French and German. Oh, and it's actually a hard back :)
