Very interesting book, with fascinating detail about the struggles for control of the marble. This is a "behind the scenes" kind of history that gives new insights and fleshes out even more the huge body of scholarship that already exists on Michelangelo, his work and his times. Accessibly written and entertaining too.

For anyone who has been to Carrara, or Italy at all, or is interested in sculpture, this is a very interesting book about the art of marble sculpting as well as the life and times of Michelangelo. It talks about the history as well as present-day, and includes some very interesting facts about the marble workers. It also goes into very interesting detail about how Michelangelo bought, transported and worked the marble.
