Michael Anthony McFaul (born 1963 in Glasgow,Montana) is a professor of political science and director of the Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law at Stanford University, of which he is also an alumnus. He is a Rhodes Scholar and noted authority on Russian politics. He has written numerous books on democratic transitions.

He has been named Special Assistant to The President for National Security Affairs and senior director of Russian and Eurasian Affairs at the United States National Security Council.
