One of the characters in this series that I just LOVE to hate. This woman is hard core and scary as hell, but this book was a fabulous read. I'm a fan of the author and she didn't disappoint me with this one.

How all their endless exsistance intertwine!
Truly, these are getting better and better. You can't beat the wonderful southern history that is woven into each story and connects them to each other. Lots of action, tension and excitement building in this story.
another vampire book by an awesome writer..
Anne Rice has a huge following of devoted readers and she provides her fans with abundant amounts of generally consistently well-written novels. From what I can remember of Rice's work, she has a few different supernatural themes: the vampire books, the Mayfair books and the Taltos series. (She has written other books of various genres, some under psuedonyms, etc., but this is not a review of her as a writer.) I am not one of her devoted fans, I personally tend to buy and read her books when I am slightly desperate and really need to find something that will provide me with an engrossing read - something that I and my family tend to call "airplane books."
Rice is a talented writer and, as I said above, it comes through in her work. She seems to have researched her subjects well, and she has created worlds with intricate detail. She easily sets aside the veil of disbelief.
She herself is a Catholic and it appears to me that she is very well-educated and observant of her religion and it permeates throughout her books.
From what I recall of Merrick, it is a bit of a blend between her vampire and her Mayfair series. I find this book interesting because Merrick comes from the African American branch of the Mayfair family. And with all of Rice's books, you get the heavy, musky, steamy New Orleans atmosphere.

Anne Rice's Merrick was very intriguing, a little boring at first but then the story started to pick up. This book was a nice read for me.
