After days of rain, a washed-out road uncovers the skeletal remains of several bodies in a culvert. The skulls have blunt force trauma. Their mouths show similar injuries. The circumstances remind FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick of the murder of two families twenty years ago. A man was convicted of those murders and is currently serving a life sentence. Could he be innocent or is this a copycat?
I was pulled right into this story, learning about the past murders and wondering where the investigation would lead. Mercy and her boyfriend, Police Chief Truman Daly, work various aspects of the crime while waiting for the Forensic experts to identify the remains. I thought I had the killer picked out until a shocking event in the middle of the book changed everything.
This was another winner by Kendra Elliot. I actually stayed up half the night reading this book. I'm impressed that the author keeps topping herself with each book in the series. My rating: 5 Stars.
