In the first, the governor of the planet Trowbri calls for help with a ghost problem and gets a homesteading pig farmer -- actually a well-trained member of the Porcine Interstellar Guard, who exposes the "ghosts" as aggressive aliens secretly mining uranium from Trowbri.

In the second case, another agent, disguised as a robot hawker, lands on an unfriendly planet to investigate the recent disappearance of the galactic census-taker; aided by his highly sophisticated talking computer, the man from R.O.B.O.T. traces the mysterious, hostile behavior of the planet's adult male inhabitants to a bacterium that causes paranoia.
