This is the first book by Penelope Stokes that I've read, and after this one, I must read more of her stories. What a fantastic story.

However, the other members of my bookclub unanimously disagree. One couldn't even finish the book. They found the ghost scenario's flimsy, they thought it was a poorly written story, and they felt the protagonist was unlikeable. ....I felt completely the opposite...

A STORY ABOUT HOW THE PAST CAN REDEEM THE FUTURE...AND HOW THE FUTURE CAN REDEEM THE PAST.
It's all there in the 1920s-era "memory book" that Phoebe Lange finds in her grandmother's library--
birthday cards, party invitations, ticket stubs, snapshots and autographs, a note from a teacher, a graduation invitation...and a death certificate bearing Phoebe Lange's own name.
What do you do when you peer into a 75-year-old scrapbook and into your own future? How do you respond to the diary of a dead woman that tells the story of your own life?
This is the Crossings Book Club edition, and this is a truly remarkable read. Extremely moving and entrancing. You will want to read this one twice!

I enjoy all of Penelope J. Stokes books - she is just a great author. In this book a Memory Book is found dating to the 1920 era and has the main character's name - she finds herself going back in time as that person. Such a good book as all of her books are!

This was the first book I've read by this author, and I have to admit that I can't wait to read more by her. I enjoyed the mixture of searching for faith and suspense and the past/present theme. I could really identify with some aspects of the main character as far as wondering why God allows tragedies and struggling to find personal faith. I would have hoped for a different outcome for Phoebe's great aunt; having said that, however, the ending fit perfectly with the plot.

Phoebe becomes obsessed with the mysterious ancestor, also named Phoebe Lange, whom she is convinced is the key to answering the questions that have plagued her.
