I have to say one of the best books I have read this year.

At first I was hesitant to read it because of the style of writing, but as I pressed on, i'm glad I did. Very heart breaking all the things Mia had to go through and learn by herself. You have to admire her for all the tough times she was put through, especially when she was consorting with German soldiers.

Pretty graphic in some places so if you don't like that kind of thing, then I don't recommend this book but if you want a good story about the Holocaust (this is not a based on a true story type book) it is still very good.

The author (at the time of publishing) was the head of Kensington Publishing.

Mia Levy takes an incredible journey through time. She lived in Poland where she had a full life until the war caused her world to change forever. Her struggle to survive during the Nazi years would take her from poverty in Poland to New York City, where she would find the love of her life, and to Paris where she compromises her beleifs to hurt the enemy.

Mia is the lucky one of the family. Her father pushes her from a moving train on their way to Birkenau, a concentration camp. She survives the fall and begins her adventure. She tried to do everything she can to get them back, to save the only people she has left. Through all of this Mia realizes who real friends are and what true love is. She see's unimaginable things during her journey, but she remains strong.

This book is inspired by the author's own experience as an American soldier. It is truly deep and intensly graphic. It will grab your heart, and show you what that time was truly like, what people had to endure to survive.
