Why ARE women obsessed with being beautiful? Although this is a biting satire of the patriarchal system of the 50's and 60's, too much of it still rings true for today's woman.
This is a novel from the early days of the feminist movement, first published in 1969-70. It's a lot of fun to read, and though I read it long ago, I remember liking it a lot; it's very perceptive about a young woman's feelings and relationships in that era.
While the book is set in the 1950s and early 1960s, the author's observations about womanhood, beauty, and the relationships between men and women are timeless.
