For anyone out there that "doesn't like memoirs", I dare you to listen to Frank McCourt reading his own work and not be enchanted. Frank's life is not only interesting and entertaining, it makes you feel. You cannot hear him and not be sucked back in time there with him. He is the single most talented memoirist I've ever read. And hearing him read his own work is nothing short of an experience. His voice lulls you back in time, and you feel every single word he speaks. I remember reading 'Tis and being disappointed, it wasn't "as good as" Angela's Ashes, but hearing it and the story it encompasses - as well as having read Teacher Man... I now see it was actually the perfect book to come next. It brought you from his childhood in Limerick to the point of "growing up". I'm sure I'm overthinking it, but really, it is a beautiful book. If only to hear him tell his story, the audio book was a great purchase for me...

I'm not sure where I'll take my McCourt addiction after listening to Teacher Man - probably to his brother's book and then to their DVD ;)
