When everything seems to be falling into place, Medina?s father has a different agenda for her. With the intensity of the civil war and after several years of draught, the country is hit by famine. The government uses the poverty by displacing the people as a strategy to get to the rebels. Hence, Medina is forced into a marriage of convenience whilst her brothers take different sides in this conflict. Their own village is also exposed for displacement and several of Medina?s family members are massacred. Medina escapes from her husband and seeks refuge with the Baggara people.
