This book was an enjoyable read. It's literary style and character development are very Victorian and at times predictable but none-the-less it is enjoyable. The book takes several unexpected twists and turns as the main character Edward strives to take back his birthright while other characters plot against him.

I read several excellent reviews of this book, however I found it dull and lacking in excitement. The atmosphere was well developed but nothing hooked me in, so that I finally, about page 87, gave up, skipped to the end to see if anything exciting happened and called it a day.

Despite it almost 700 pages in length this book holds your interest throughout. The complex characters and and well developed historical background create an enthralling mystery. The development of three dimensional characters and the plot twists make this an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit! Meticulously researched, the historical detail did bog down the book, but that was really its only flaw. The characters, and their surprising actions, were fascinating and the intricate plot moved unpredictably. I really enjoyed this, though when I was halfway through I originally had no intention of reading the sequel (it does get a little slow in parts), but now that I have finished, I am quite interested in reading it! All in all, it was very well done!
