One of the best true crime books I have ever read, and I have read hundreds. Well written
True crime story of Pat Dunn, a retired high school principal, and his prosecution for the murder of his wie.
Humes demonstrates in this account how "mean justice" in Bakersfield is part of a growing national trend.
Pulitzer Prize winning book and I can see why.

672pp's, long book....main story about man (retired high school principal)accused of murdering his rich wife and just half burying her body in the desert...many other interwoven stories to make an inditement against the criminal justice system of Bakersfield, CA. Very scholary work, about 150pp of end notes, appendix. National Bestseller, true crime, murder, rape, conspiracies, expose of prosecutors office and unintended casulaties in the war on crime.
A lot of research went into this book! The author explores several cases in which judicial errors occurred resulting in the conviction of innocent people. This is an astounding statement about the judicial system of Kern County, California.
