People really do get hit by lightning, and most of them survive. Gretel Erlich is one of them and this is a poignantly and factually written account of her struggle to retain health and sanity through the ordeal.

I have loved all of Gretel Ehrlich books, but this one in particular I find myself remembering snatches of in odd moments. Her descriptions of the experience of being struck by lightning are vivid, but particularly interesting because she discusses the long term effects to her body, mind and spirit. This is not Ehrlich's most lyrical writing, but still some of her best.
