This book is a lesson in "Dont judge a cover by it's book," or something like that. Being a Kinley McGregor fan, I decided to order this book since it is her first KM novel. I was worried about the cover and such, but the book inside did not disappoint. The storyline is very good and has good character development. Yes, there is sex -- but it doesnt consume the story.
It has action, mystery, and a bit of a twist at the end. And yes, the hero even ends up doing something to prove his love that sort of makes you go, "awwwwww" at the end. So it has a bit of everything in it.
The only irony here is that this book has NOTHING at all to do with the MacAllister series, although it is advertised as #1 in the series. Odd. Probably a bit of that Kinley McGregor humor.

This one totally hooked me on the MacAllisters.
Don't judge a book by it's cover, buy a book cover if you must, but this is the beginning of a really fun series.

This is one of my favorite books. It has everything you could want: forbidden love, action, seduction, great characters, and a touch of comedy added in for good measure. Most books I read, I cannot actually picture what is going on, but this is one of those that I can see the characters doing and saying what is written in the book. If you want a book that is fast to read, and quite entertaining, you must read this. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes medieval romance novels.

Much better than I thought it would be - quick read!

The comment on the back cover describes it accurately: "Romping good fun!" From beginning to end, this is just a fun read, which is exactly what a romance novel should be.

I LOVED this book! Draven was so hurt and Emily was a breath of fresh air in his life. They were meant for each other. He could pull off a snide comment and she could give him a comeback. They had me laughing throughout. His pain was so unbelievably horrible that it made you just ache for him. If you enjoy knights and their ladies then you MUST read this story.

There is enough humor and sensuality in this book to please most romance readers. Draven is cursed with a dark past; Emily is everything that is light and open and will do anything to bring Draven to her side. King Henry has made Emily Draven's ward for a year to stop the fighting between her father and the Earl. Draven is on his honor not to harm Emily in any way or suffer death. Ha! Emily fights to get what she wants. Most entertaining!

This is the story of the most feared knight in the land, Draven and a very willful woman named Emily. We first meet Draven when he and Emily's father are before the king arguing about the on going feud between them. Both blame each other for the attacks on their land. The king decides that in order to make these two come to a peace that Emily shall spend one year in Draven's care and that Draven must never touch her or else he will die. They both agree and Draven gives his vow of honor not to touch her in anger or in lust. Little did he know how hard that vow would be to keep.
Emily is a beautiful woman who longs for a husband and family of her own. Her father is overprotective of her and her sisters. She is thrilled to get the chance to be free for a while and decides to set her sights on Draven. When they first meet he takes her breath away. She decides right then and there that he will be hers and she always wins. Draven is not unaffected by her and its a constant struggle for him to keep his distance. He longs to love her but is afraid the demon inside him will hurt her and drive her away forever.
They must find the laughter and the love they both deserve and bring peace between two families.

Definitely a worthy read for historical romance lovers. I enjoyed the development of the characters. Emily is a twenty-something woman who is sheltered by her father. Two of her sisters and her mother have died in childbirth and her father doesn't want to let any of his other daughters go. Due to a feud with Draven he is forced (by the King's order) to give one of his daughter's over to him for a year. This is supposed to ensure that there will be no blood shed between the two lords.

Absoultely delightful and so much fun. The mystery is easy to figure out but the characters make the book. Emily is so charming and sweet with wonderful spirit. Draven is incredibly sexy and Simon a barrel of laughs.
Great read. One of the best books in the series.

Lady Emily has always dreamed of a loce and a marriage that would transport her to heights of rapture she has never known. But though the dark, dashing, and mysterious stranger who arrives at her father's estate has indeed come for Emily, romance has nothing to do with it...
Draven de Montague, Earl of Ravenswood, would never have entered the home of his most hated adversary had not the King himself ordered Draven to take in his foe's daughter for a year, to forge bonds of peace between their two feuding houses. Yet here is a lass whose spirit and loveliness could tempt Draven to betray his sworn vow never to let another close to his heart. Emily knows the searing heat of her passion could burn down stubborn Draven's defenses--but will his surrender ignite a blaze so hot it consumes them both?

Very hot Kinley MacGregor romance set in scotland.
Torchered soul finds peace through love.
Really liked the story line. Great characters & very well written.
i havent read a book from kenyon that i havent liked yet. great author!!
In true Kinley MacGregor fashion, she has woven a tale about very real people in cool medieval circumstances. There are actually medieval takes on how many of AAA does it take to screw in a light bulb. Heartwarming and well worth the time spent to read it!

Draven de Montague would never have entered the home of his most hated adversary had not the King himself ordered Draven to take his foe's daughter for a year, to forge bonds of peace between the two feuding houses. A man determined to lock his emotions away and a passionate woman determined to burn down the man's defenses and find herself the husband she has dreamed of. Kinley MacGregor always delivers interesting characters.
Excellent book! If this is the prelude to the MacAllister series, I can hardly wait to dive into them.
