interesting mystery (with references to but not really focusing on archaeology) set in contemporary Atlanta, with visits to Egypt and Russia. The mystery begins with an ancient mask found in mysterious circumstances, touches on events in Germany in World War II, and then plays with racism (vanishing in some case, lingering in others) in the contemporary south

The Mask of Atreus was a slightly above average suspense thriller. It was an easy, fast read that was well written despite a few things that should have been found by the editor. The plotting was done well and the story moved along at a good pace. The historical and archeological parts of the story were very interesting going back from ancient Greece to WWII.

I enjoyed the book. The pacing was good, the main character was flawed (which is good to see in an action thriller - no superhero), the puzzle was interesting and done well. I would maybe read the author again or read the next book in the series.

It did not have all the suspense I was looking for.

It made me wish I knew a little more about Greek mythology, but not enough that I will look for a book on the subject.

I was surprised to see a reference book Brothers In Arms: The Epic Story of the 761st Tank Battalion, WWII's Forgotten Heros, [a Black Tank Battalion] by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

A decent first book... how can you go wrong, based off the cover; a swastika overlaying a Mycenaean death mask.
The book flowed alright, and the story was interesting enough. I guess it was just missing a little something... a little extra that could have made it really great. It didn't have some of the finishing power of some of the other books in its historical fiction/action-adventure genre.

Unlikely thriller with the dumbest heroine in recent memory. A museum curator attempts to solve the murder of her mentor, which involved either the greatest treasure of the ancient world, or a clever forgery. Or maybe something else entirely.
