The Marvel Comics web site describes their âMarvel Adventures Super Heroesâ series as âThe perfect line to introduce young readers to the Marvel Universe â¦â Perhaps, but I found the collection of tales collected under the banner of âMarvel Adventures: Black Widow and the Avengersâ to be a quite entertaining collection. Each story in the collection stood on its own, but contained enough ongoing threads to show the continuity of the series. Globetrotting as befits the âWorld's Greatest Superhero Groupâ, the group of Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Vision, Black Widow, Invisible Woman (yes, moonlighting from the Fantastic Four), and Nova battled such foes as Diablo and the Silver Surfer (there's an explanation as to why he was an adversary rather than an ally).
The only complaint I had was that the titular character, The Black Widow, was probably the least utilized character in the entire collection!
This made light nighttime reading â entertaining, but didn't require me to ponder long and hard over any great truths or mysteries that were posed for the readership.
RATING: 4 ½ stars, rounded up to 5 stars where ½ stars are not permitted.
