On Market Street
Author: Arnold Lobel
"In a delightful and unusual book, a boy trots down Market Street buying presents for a friend, each one starting with a letter of the alphabet. Every letter is illustrated by a figure ingeniously composed of, for instance, apples or wigs or quilts. The notion is original, and the sum total enjoyable and unique."--Horn Book.

I remember reading Arnold Lobel books when I was a kid, and I have enjoyed reading them now to my own children. This one is fairly straightforward--the author went down Market Street and bought something beginning with each letter of the alphabet to give to someone special. The illustrations are amazing--each page shows a person clothed entirely in the object purchased ("A" is wearing all apples, for instance.) My kids especially liked finding Frog and Toad in one picture!
