Slow start, but keep reading. Beautiful writing style. A little thin for my tastes, but still interesting.

Mariette in Ecstasy is a stunning book about a French young woman's faith. It is hard to believe that a man wrote this poetic story. It is not the volume of words that makes this book so powerful, but the tremendously deep and emotional expression of Mariette's experiences as a cloistered novice. Beautifully written. Deeply moving.

Although Hansen's unique writing style lent a refreshing air to this quick read, the ending disappointed me. I felt it was predictable from the first page. Perhaps I'd heard too much hype about it.

Not in a long time have I come across a book that is powerful in it's meaning, whether or not you are religious is of no consequence.
It's in the telling that catches your attention and keeps you turning the pages.
