Hello!  Still listening to The Count of Monte Cristo (the unabridged version), 26 hours of 52 total completed!  SUCH a tome but so, so, so good!  I was reading The Consequence of Anna, which I stumbled upon at Amazon.  They advertised "Pulitzer Prize Nominee!" "Soon to be a Major Motion Picture!"  I thought, "Hmm, cool.  Sounds interesting.  How come I've never heard of this book?"  I downloaded it.  I got about a chapter in, and I felt like something was off.  The language seemed a bit strange - both the use of a lot of arcane words and lots of Australian slang that felt forced.  I went and read the reviews (which I probably should've done before purchasing the book but sometimes I don't like to do that and potentially bias myself for or against the book), and lo and behold!  I wasn't the only one who found the book slightly off.  Many speculate that it was written by AI and some had done some on-line sleuthing.  No one found anything definitive, but it sure seems that way.  I have no idea how they can falsely advertise that the book is a Pulitizer Price nomiee when it is not.  The book claims to be based on a true story, but the on-line detectives weren't able to find anything to corroborate that.  Anyway, I thought I'd push on with it anyway, but the book just dragged.  After reading on it for 11 days, I was only 25% in and just lost interest.  So, I bailed.  I started reading A Single Thread by Tracy Chevalier.

I finished A Brazen Curiosity by Lynn Messina  a regency historical mystery.  It is a long series but just okay to me.  Kinda bland.

I also finished I Died for Beauty by Amanda Flower.  It is the Emily Dickinson series. Very good set in winter of 1857.  Lots of discussion of that horrible winter.

I started Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.  Obviously not HF, but a classic I felt I needed to read at some point.

Carolyn:  I really enjoyed Frankenstein, too.  Some classics make for awesome reading.

Been a wild month.  DH had many issues with his heart but things seem a little better today.  Not much time for reading as I am spending extra time on the yard.

Working on a couple of big reads though:  The Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah Maas, fantasy, and The Republic of Thieves by Scott Lynch, which is HF I believe.  Both over 600 pages.  The librarian renewed them for me and the renewal was over so I called.  Said she was just going to check my books and renew any I was reading.  What a wonderful gesture.  There are some wonderful people in this chaotic world.
