DeLillo blew my mind with White Noise, one of my top 5 favorite books of all time. Since then I've read Underworld, Falling Man, Cosmopolis, The Body Artist, and recently Mao II. I fear the Law of Diminishing Returns is in effect with DeLillo. Nothing, not even Underworld, has come close to being as cool or stimulating as White Noise. There are a few good passages and impressive turns of phrase in this book, but ultimately it doesn't hang together well at all, especially regarding the plot. I finished the book and wondered what the point of it all was. I would not recommend this book. I'd recommend White Noise instead.
